BioProcess Algae and Green Plains Host Conference Tour

Posted by Sasha Forsen on Mon, Sep 16, 2013 @ 04:45 PM

This past week, BioProcess Algae and Green Plains hosted a tour of our algae and ethanol facilities and how the two work side-by-side. The group was split up in two. While half of the group toured BioProcess Algae led by our CEO Tim Burns, the other half got to check out the ethanol production process with tour guide Ryan Brock, Green Plains Shenandoah Lab Manager. Then after the groups toured their first facility, they switched to the other.

We had a great time! We had a lot of interested parties from various companies and industries and they came equipped with lots of questions. We were very excited to show all of the innovative happenings going on in Shenandoah, Iowa.

The tour was part of the National Advanced Biofuels Conference & Expo that was held this year in Omaha, Nebraska. Tim Burns, our CEO, had the opportunity to present and talk algae with the conference attendees.

You can find out more about the conference here.

BioProcess Algae Harvest in Shenandoah - VIDEO

Posted by Sasha Forsen on Thu, Apr 04, 2013 @ 04:51 PM

Check out our Grower Harvester™ technology in action!

This video gives a whole new meaning to agriculture in the midwest. Watch as algae is being harvested from our Grower Harvester™ platform co-located with Green Plains in Shenandoah, Iowa.

WHAT YOU'RE SEEING

  • High density harvest can be seen in our Grower Harvester™ basin as the algae biofilm is dislodged from our proprietary high surface area attach growth substrate. This density will continue to concentrate as the algae is sprayed into basin.
  • High protein, omega-3 rich biomass is dewatered through on-site filtration and centrifugation.
  • Dewatered pastes are currently dried with high capacity on-site drying capabilities.
  • Dried powders are then ready for shipment to downstream partners for a variety of markets.

BioProcess Algae Update

Posted by Sasha Forsen on Fri, Feb 08, 2013 @ 11:19 AM

On Thursday of this week, Green Plains had their fourth quarter and full-year 2012 financial results conference call. Green Plains is one of our joint venture partners and our co-location algae facility is located at their Shenandoah, Iowa ethanol plant.

Todd Becker, Green Plains President & CEO, gave listeners of the call an update on BioProcess Algae and our plans for the future. Here are some of Mr. Becker's talking points from yesterday:

  • Offtake demand has exceeded phase III so we started phase IV to meet those needs
  • In phase IV we plan to build 10 additional 400 ft. reactors and expect completion of those at the end of this year
  • When additional reactors are completed, our total capacity will be between 350 and 400 tons of dry wholesale algae, approximately 1 ton, per day
  • Joint development agreements are in place and under development
  • We are working on high value protein replacements for animal feed
  • We have several continuing initiatives within the nutraceutical sectors
  • Agricultural trials are underway

You can check out the entire call from yesterday and all of Todd's comments on BioProcess Algae by visiting the Green Plains' website: http://investor.gpreinc.com/events.cfm

BioProcess Algae’s team of operators, engineers and biologist have many incredible strides over the past two weeks in the development of our Phase III algae farm. The team has met several significant milestones permitting the actual growth of algae to commence. Our engineers have completed the installation of the new harvesters in our smaller units and anticipate the final harvester will be installed next week.

Please check back for frequent updates as the construction begins to wrap up!

Phase III Algae Project Construction Update

Posted by Sasha Forsen on Mon, Oct 01, 2012 @ 11:29 AM

Here's the latest construction update from our BioProcess Algae crew in Shenandoah, Iowa:

Last week we began commissioning the new Phase III equipment and began the process of getting everything started. The greenhouses are complete. All of the new buildings are fully enclosed and the cleaning procedure that comes before inoculation has begun. We should be adding new algae to the first building this week. Also this week we will be installing the new harvesters in the smaller two buildings.
